Literature Text

My heart sings
Like a bright autumn leaf
That dances through the air
On its loving, graceful decent
Falling a bit before it is caught
By the gay brisk wind
That tosses it back up to a higher note
And makes it flutter there a while
Before it drifts back down
Twisting and turning and flowing
Like rhyme off the tongue
Carried long and far
Inspiring both artist's hand and writer's heart
But knowing only its own joy
As it drifts along
Eventually landing daintily
Unpon the far edge of a leaf pile
That a young child jumps in
Without care for prose or rhyme
Only the joy of the song itself
And they laugh
But the wind of thier landing
Has knocked the leaf aloft again
And it hops on the breeze
To a nearby pond
Making soft ripples as it lands
Floating there until the freeze of winter
That preserves its lasting beauty
Until the spring thaw
When a child collecting wildflowers
Finds the tune and plucks it up
Carrying it home to press
In the great folds of a memory book
To be passed through the ages
And sung forever
Unaware how many lives were touched
By its bright, simple beauty
That endures.
My heart's song.
